Battle of the Bands at Overlake has a rocky history [no pun intended]. It was introduced a few years ago, not as an ASB event, and they idea carried over.
In the past, the event has simply been a short set, in the FuPac. There was no money spent/earned and it just took a bit of work. The demand wasn't too high, as evidenced by the attedance, but it was fun.
THE '06 EFFORT
This last year ('05-'06), we attempted something new. I wanted to bring in outside bands and turn the event into an Eastside youth music project- with massive profits going to the ASB (as we dearly needed funds for prom).
Overlake alone had 5 bands (1 frosh- Sam Tillis; 2 soph- Arbel Kodesh & Vinny Arora and Greg Sterin; 1 junior- Nathan Johnston & Colin Madden; 1 senior- Erik Stinson & Addison Arlow & Chris Koss (Cryogenic Freeze)) then I had lined up 5 more from Woodinville HS (who would surely be interested next year if this opportunity is available- ask Megan Halbrook to talk to Joey Petterson (Powerhaus)) and 1 from Seattle Prep (Flingoctabob-who won their huge battle of the bands (Mark Gudaitis knew them)); I was also looking into resources at the Firehouse to get some Redmond HS bands involved.
to be continued...
